WHO WE ARE
The Arka team has grown organically, we have wonderful people who, although very different in a lot of ways, share the same values and passion for the work we do. One of the things that people appreciate about our team is that you could see the same person when your loved one is collected, as when you arrange the funeral and then on the day of the funeral. We are a small team, friendly and easy to talk to.
Cara Mair is founder and sole owner of ARKA Original Funerals and our main funeral director and consultant. She has experience in all aspects of the funeral profession and is there to offer a fully participative funeral service where the bereaved can truly be as involved in all aspects of the arranging, preparation and ceremony as they might wish.
Cara is also available as a consultant to help families and friends who wish to carry out all aspects of the funeral themselves, and simply need advice or support.
Hannah Bywaters Hannah has worked for us since 2016, supporting Cara in all aspects of our work from Islingword Road. She works as a Funeral Director and Funeral Arranger and is an integral and very valued member of our team.
Hannah Butters is known to us as B to avoid confusion with our other Hannah! B’s role is a funeral assistant, supporting all practical areas of work at Arka. Coming from a background in social care and the arts, B brings creativity and resourcefulness to her work with us.
We are very lucky to have Tracy O’Rourke-Burr in our team supporting us with funeral arranging, and our office and project management. She is wonderfully organised and a calm presence helping us stay on track as a team, especially with our administration.
Li Mills is a funeral arranger, just with us one day a week. Li is also one of our recommended celebrants. Li also brings her experience working as a death doula to the Arka team, and is incredibly well organised.
Maureen Bourne is our newest team member, and has quickly shown herself to be a perfect fit to complement us all. Maureen’s role is as funeral assistant, supporting us in so many ways with practical solutions and initiative. Maureen is a musician who performs locally, and she also works as a hairdresser a couple of days a week, and knew some of us in that role before joining!
Audrey is our Customer Services Liaison Officer, only working part-time, but available by phone or email at other times! With us from an early age, still learning the ropes. She is aware that not everyone appreciates a dog around, so feel free to let us know if that is you.
Rob and Ryan are two wonderful gentlemen who work with us in supporting families. You may see them at funerals or gently supporting us to collect people out of hours. We value them highly.
