WHO WE ARE
The Arka team has grown organically, we have wonderful people who, although very different in a lot of ways, share the same values and passion for the work we do. One of the things that people appreciate about our team is that you could see the same person when your loved one is collected, as when you arrange the funeral and then on the day of the funeral. We are a small team, friendly and easy to talk to.
Cara Mair is founder of ARKA Original Funerals and our main funeral director and consultant. She has experience in all aspects of the funeral profession and is there to offer a fully participative funeral service where the bereaved can truly be as involved in all aspects of the arranging, preparation and ceremony as they might wish.
Cara is also available as a consultant to help families and friends who wish to carry out all aspects of the funeral themselves, and simply need advice or support.
Sarah Clarke-Kent is one of our key funeral directors, works closely alongside Cara as our Business Manager, and supports the team in the operational work of ARKA. Sarah has a background in social care and human resources. She was awarded Funeral Director of the Year in 2014 from the national Good Funeral Guide Awards.
Wendy Halsted is a funeral arranger in our Surrey Street office and a very well regarded Interfaith Minister. She supports families and individuals to create wonderful ceremonies for their loved ones which can incorporate religious or non-religious aspects. Wendy also works as a music therapist.
Rebecca D’arcy is a funeral arranger in our Surrey Street office and an
Interfaith Minister. Rebecca has a wide knowledge of different cultural practices and rituals around life and death, she has worked in social care and runs her own business as a counsellor.
Imke Elstner is our administrator. She helps Arka to run smoothly, which in turn allows Cara and Sarah to focus on the services we provide. Imke, one of these indispensable people, has a wide range of skills and comes to us from the BBC where she worked for the World Service.
Marianna Lampard is a funeral arranger based at Islingword Road, she brings a wealth of experience of palliative care to the role from working as a hospice nurse and from her time with the wonderful Living Well Dying Well organisation.
Harvey Mair is Cara’s son and we are very proud to have welcomed him to the team last year, he supports our work in a very gentle, caring way. He comes to us with experience of being a support worker with a range of different people.
